Situated between Sunderland and Washington, nestling in the shadow of Penshaw Monument on the southern side of the River Wear lies one of the oldest  parkland courses and most successful clubs in the North East Of England.

THE CLUBHOUSE

Wearside Golf Club was founded in 1892 and is among a small number of golf clubs in Britain that start with a par 3 and finish with a par 5 travelling away from the clubhouse. Built between the River Wear and Penshaw Monument, you are guaranteed to experience picturesque views, demanding golf and a friendly welcome, giving you a memorable visit to this Golf Club

The course and Club have enjoyed many successes during its eventful history and in its time has produced some remarkable achievements, such as holding all four Durham County titles in 1990. (see Club History).

Harry Vardon, All-England Champion, played here and then went on to design the inward nine holes. As for the course, there is an ongoing programme to improve the course with the addition of more sand traps and establishment of more trees.

 We are now offering golf buggies  for hire at £10 to members and £15 to visitors, per round. Make your round easier, especially in the summer heat wave. Ring the Pro or Secretary for details on 01915342518
